Things To Do

While you are staying at Bowmans Bearcreek Lodge and on the Kenai Peninsula, there are many nearby places of interest a short drive from us. Here are a few to consider:

Visit Seward

Visit the Alaska Sea Life Center- Underwater viewing tanks enable you to witness sealions swimming and acrobatic seabirds diving just inches away. Check out the touch tank for close encounters with various marine life.

Join a Sea Lion rookery via web cam. Or simply enjoy a series of short films and interactive displays.

Then hop aboard a half day marine cruise through spectacular scenery, historic sites and wildlife havens. View Puffins, otters, Sea Lions, whales, bird colonies and more.

Enjoy your lunch of fresh salmon, prime rib and all the fixins'on Fox Island. Once ashore, explore downtown Seward or take an easy half-mile walk to the face of Exit Glacier and gaze into its mass of brilliant blue ice.

Visit Whittier

View the hanging glaciers of Bear Valley on your forty mile drive to visit the Portage Visitors Center. Drive through the 2 1/2 mile Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel into Whitier and Prince William Sound.

Available in Whittier are afternoon guided sea kayak outings on Prince William Sound, or a leisurly four hour ride on the Alaska Railroad through the Chugach Mountains to Grandview Glacier. This is some of the most rugged and beautiful country in Alaska. Explore the small specialty shops at the Whittier boat harbor.

Tour Quaint Cooper Landing

Take a guided hiking trip with a naturalist to the amazing Russian River Falls. Watch the sockeye salmon surge up the fish ladder as they struggle to complete their life cycle. This is a leisurely walk suitable for all ages.

What a great way to start your day!

Kenai River Scenic Float-

Enjoy a leisurely float down the turquoise waters of the Kenai River. Your guide will take you through one of Alaska's most beautiful areas. Home to eagles, moose, Dall sheep and bears. Bask in the views and enjoy the rhythm of the river. Suitable for all ages.

Kenai River Fishing-

Savor this fishing paradise with a day on the river. Local guides specialize in the Upper Kenai's famous Sockeye and Coho Salmon, Dolly Varden and trophy Rainbow Trout. Rainbows are carefully handled, photographed and released.

The guides will get you into plenty of productive water as you drift fish with stops at key locations for bank fishing and a delicious streamside snack.

Explore Hope

Raft Alaska's best whitewater on Sixmile Creek. Dropping over 50 feet per mile as it flows out of the Chugach Mountains. Sixmile Creek cuts its way through three separate canyons offering Class IV and Class V whitewater.

For adventurous first timers we suggest Canyons One and Two, and for our experienced rafters, to continue on through the furious rapids of the lower canyon.

Enjoy a self- guided tour of Historic Hope- Visit the Scott Sherritt Fine Art Gallery, shop for local crafts at the Hope Library gift shop, see Sourdough Dru's eclectic Alaskan Store. Gold pan with Goldrush Peck across Main Street from the 100 year old Seaview Bar.

You are sure to meet some colorful local characters in Hope.
